C. Lesson Introduction - Today, our focus is on the use of psalms, hymns and other spiritual songs. The psalmist admonishes us to sing psalms unto the Lord. Also, Apostle Paul admonished Christians to edify one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. This is one of the ways by which we can load our lives with the word of God.

A. Lesson Aim - To study the place of Psalms, hymns and spiritual sons in giving thanks to God.
B. Teaching Objectives and Lesson Plan
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to use Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual songs to praise the Lord. To achieve these objectives, teacher explains the place of psalms in thanksgiving. Teacher also explains that spiritual songs and hymns produce inspiration that draws us to the presence of God or draws down the mighty hand of God .
Teacher concludes by encouraging students to sing songs, hymns and, psalms to the Lord to thank Him for His all-round kindness.

David mentioned some reasons why God must be praised in today's passage. These were as follows:

He mentioned also some instruments to praise Him.

QA. What are Hymns?
Ai. They are religious canticles, songs, or psalms. Eph. 5: 19, Co1.3: 16
ii. They are songs inspired by God, written by spiritual men.

QB. Who sang or should sing?
Ai. Christ and His disciples sang to God. Matt. 26:30
ii. Kings, apostles and holy men in the Bible. E.g Moses, Marian etc iii. Believers in our days should sing spiritual songs & hymns.
QC. Which song should we avoid and why?
Ai. Songs that glorifies flesh, sin and devil.
ii. Why? They affect our worship.
QD. In addition to praising God, does song serve other purpose?
Ai. Yes. It is a way to load our lives with the word of God. Co1.3:16
ii. The various songs perform different functions e.g. some are prayers, some are prophesies, etc. Psalm 20:1-9; Psalm 2:1-12; Psalm6:1-10.
iii. They also edify our souls. Matthew 26:30
Class Activity 2 - How can the youth show greater love to spiritual songs than secular songs?
Summary: Sing spiritual songs, hymns, psalms to God always.
Conclusion: One of the ways one can maximise gains from psalms, hymns and songs is for one to be born again and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Hymns come from divine inspiration, therefore, one must be in the spirit to get the best from them.
